Non-Compete Agreement

A Non-Compete Agreement is a legal document that prevents an employee, contractor or business partner from engaging in competitive activities after their association with a company ends. It includes restrictions on working for direct competitors, starting a similar business or sharing trade secrets. The agreement specifies the duration, geographic limitations and conditions of enforcement, ensuring the company’s proprietary information and market position remain protected.

A Non-Compete Agreement is filled out by an employee, contractor or business partner who agrees not to work for competitors or start a competing business within a specified timeframe and geographic area. Employers or business owners use this agreement to protect trade secrets, client relationships and confidential information. Both parties must sign the document for it to be legally binding.

Once signed, the employer and the employee should each keep a copy of the Non-Compete Agreement for their records. Some agreements may need to be notarized or filed with legal counsel, depending on state laws and company policies.
